US warships fire cruise missiles on Syrian airbase

n the toughest direct action yet by the US in Syria's six-year-old civil war, US warships stationed in the Mediterranean Sea rained cruise missiles on an airbase controlled by President Bashar al-Assad.
The direct intervention came hours after US President Donald Trump said that the Syrian chemical weapons in rebel-held areas had “crossed many limits”.
This week's chemical attack in the Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun had killed at least 70 people, many of them children. The Syrian government has denied it was behind the attack.
Iran sees progress in Hajj talks with Saudi

Iran said today there had been progress in talks with Saudi Arabia on allowing citizens of the Islamic republic to join this year’s hajj pilgrimage, despite some remaining issues.
Iranians were barred from attending last year’s hajj after the two countries severed diplomatic ties and failed to agree on security measures.
“Most of the questions up for discussion have been resolved and a couple of issues are remaining,” the ISNA news agency quoted Ali Ghazi Askar, the Iranian supreme leader’s representative for hajj affairs, as saying.

Pakistan has cancelled the licenses of 44 weapons issued to JuD chief Hafiz Saeed and other members of his organisations, citing security reasons.
An official of the Punjab Home Department said the step has been taken in line with the government’s action against Saeed and his organisations – the Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and the Falaha-e-Insanyat (FIF).
“The Punjab Home Department cancelled licenses of 44 weapons for security reasons,” the official told PTI today.

At least 92,000 people have been displaced since the last October attacks on police posts in Myanmar’s northern Rakhine State, UN officials told reporters here.
