Complete ban on firecrackers not possible without people s cooperation: Officials

It is not possible to implement a complete ban on firecrackers till people give their full cooperation, Delhi Police officials said Thursday, as air quality here dipped due to bursting of fire crackers in violation of a Supreme Court order. They admitted there were violations of the court order, despite constant patrolling by around 10,000 police personnel on Diwali night, saying it is not possible to monitor every violation considering the population of Delhi. The Supreme Court had allowed people to burst firecrackers from 8 pm to 10 pm only on Diwali and other festivals. The top court also allowed manufacture and sale of just green crackers which have low emission of light, sound and harmful chemicals Police said a total of 579 cases were registered and 310 people were arrested for flouting the norms. Despite constant patrolling and creating awareness, there were violations. We are sure there were more violations than the number of cases lodged but it is not manually possible to .
