Committed to ensure 80 pc reduction in TB mortality rate by 2025, says IMA

[India], Mar 24 (ANI): The mortality rate due to TB dropped by three per cent last year, said Indian Medical Association s (IMA) Dr Narendra Saini here on Sunday. IMA is committed to accomplishing the targeted 80 per cent reduction in mortality by 2025, said Dr Sain, while speaking at the event organised to mark commemorate the 137th World TB Day here.IMA s national president Dr Santanu Sen inaugurated the event by lightening lamps and releasing 137 balloons in the air. Training was imparted to as many as 500 NGO and healthcare workers. Students from schools across the city also participated in the event.The slogan for the event was-- IMA Ka Naara, TB Se Chutkara. The awareness programme was simultaneously carried out at all 1,750 branches of IMA throughout India. The programme aimed at increasing awareness about the dreaded disease among the public.IMA Finance Secretary Dr Ramesh Datta also pointed out other vital issues resulting in the development of TB in women. Over 3.2 million women are not only suffering from TB, but the mortality rate is also on the higher side. We need to come forward as a unit to develop strategies that effectively address the impediments in the management of the disease, especially the notification, he said. (ANI)
