With Home Minister Rajnath Singh claiming that Afzal Guru event had Pakistan’s Hafiz Saeed’s support, the row over ‘anti-national’ activities in the varsity fails to die down. Here are all the latest updates:-

– “The JNU issue is not about an institution or an attack on an institution, or about those studying there. It is clearly an investigation into those elements, who desire India’s destruction and who are openly trying to align themselves with those associated with terrorism,” BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli said.

– Launching a scathing attack against Home Minister Rajnath Singh for saying that the JNU incident was supported by Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed, the Congress Party on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying the shield its student wing Akhila Bharatiya Vidhyarti Parishad (ABVP).

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said that the ABVP was trying to bring disrepute to the JNU in the matter.

– JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar, arrested in a case of sedition and criminal conspiracy for holding an anti-national event inside the university premises, will be produced in a Delhi court on Monday.

– Earlier, on Friday , Kanhaiya was remanded to three-day police custody by a Delhi court. Kanhaiya was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Lovleen where the police sought his custodial interrogation for five days to ascertain the alleged links of the accused persons, including those who are allegedly absconding, with terrorist groups.

– On Saturday, CPI MP D Raja had claimed that he has received calls carrying threats to his daughter, who is a student activist in the Jawaharlal Nehru University, whose students union chief has been arrested on sedition charges.

– Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday on claimed that the JNU university event in Delhi in memory of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru had received “support” from terror outfit LeT’s founder Hafiz Saeed, a statement that sparked a political row with opposition parties asking him to provide evidence.

– Reacting to Singh’s claim, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said it is a “very serious charge” to level against the students and that the evidence must be shared with all.

– CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said the Home Minister has to come out and share the evidence he has with the country to back up his “serious allegation”. CPI leader D Raja also demanded that the evidence be made public.
