Made Cong confess Afzal’s hanging was wrong, says Er Rasheed

Independent legislator Er Abdul Rashid Wednesday justified that he voted in favor of Congress leader Ghulaam Nabi Azad in last Rajya Sabha polls only to make Congress party confess that “justice was not done” when Muhammad Afzal Guru was executed.

While speaking at a day-long seminar on the execution anniversaries of Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Bhat here at a local hotel, MLA Rashid said that his vote in favor of leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha was only to make his party (Congress) confess that it did not deliver justice to Guru.

“My vote made them to accept it. Congress leader including Shashi Tharoor on record accepted that they did a mistake by hanging Guru. Confession by Congress party is itself a history for us and for the next generations,” he said.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had tweeted in Feb 2015 that he thought the hanging of Afzal Guru was “both wrong & badly handled”.

“Family should have been warned, given a last meeting & body returned,” he had said.

Afzal Guru was hanged on this day in 2013. The UPA government led by the Congress, (Tharoor’s party), was in power at the time.

Rashid while paying tributes to Guru and Afzal said that India killed them but it (India) would never be successful in killing their ideology.

He said that India must understand that had Guru and Bhat been terrorists, youth like Burhan would have never taken up guns or people in thousands would have never joined funeral of militants killed in Kashmir.

He said that holding plebiscite is the only solution to Kashmir issue.

“Let India hold it as promised by its leaders. Once the plebiscite is held here things will get clear once for all, whether people are with the India or Pakistan,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rashid said that he loves Hurriyat and would continue to support Hurriyat leaders for their stand. “There is no separatist or mainstream. From Karnah to Qazigund, we are all one. They Hurriyat leaders talk about the people of Kashmir and I will continue to support them for talking for the people of this state,” he said.

He said that one does not need to join mainstream to speak truth or Hurriyat to lie.

He said that he was the only legislator who speaks in the Assembly that Kashmir is not the integral part of the India.

“I also talk on behalf of the 24 vacant seats of PaK which is also a disputed territory,” he said.

Rashid said that the day he would understand that he is stopped from speaking truth, he would resign from mainstream politica on the same day.

“I think I am not heard and they attack me in the Assembly and in Delhi,” he said.

Meanwhile, castigating at few Pandit organization for “lying” about the number of Pandit killings in Kashmir, he said that only 200 Pandits were killed in Kashmir in past 27 years.

“Still I welcome that a fair inquiry should be carried out to deliver justice to the Pandit families but at the same time government should also start a fair inquiry into the eighty thousands killings of Muslim Kashmiris and deliver justice to their families as well,” he said.

The seminar was attended by scores of affected families who lost their dear ones in the last 27 years including brother of Muhammad Afal Guru, Ajaz Ahmad Guru.
